It’s been nearly three weeks since Leaving Neverland debuted on HBO, and it seems the fallout from the damaging new information presented by the film is just beginning.
The documentary focuses on the decades of child molestation accusations against Michael Jackson, with the bulk of the runtime focusing on claims made by Wade Robson and James Safechuck, alleged former victims who are now telling their stories as grown men.
The Jackson family has described the film as a “public lynching,” but many, many viewers feel that the film removes any doubt with regard to Jackson’s guilt.
Several members of the Jackson family continue to live off of the proceeds of the singer’s massively lucrative estate, so it should come as no surprise that his living relatives have presented a united front against Michael’s accusers.
Among the most vocal defenders has been Michael’s only daughter, Paris Jackson, who does not believe her father’s accusers and has made a point of laughing off the allegations,
Many believe that such a response is deeply insensitive to abuse victims, and some have gone so far as to claim that Paris is so eager to sweep the scandal under the carpet because she believes the allegations will derail her career.
Others have offered a different explanation, with insiders claiming that Paris is in the midst of a “complete meltdown” brought about by the film.
Some fans were shocked by a recent video of Paris smoking pot, due to the fact that the 20-year-old just completed rehab earlier this year and is a member of Alcoholics Anonymous — an organization that strongly discourages the use of mind-altering substances by recovering addicts.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Paris had hit rock bottom when she was spotted drinking heavily and fighting with her boyfriend during a night on the town.
On Thursday, Paris decided to address the concerns about her recent behavior:
“Damn I’m just now catching wind of these downward spiral articles.. this is like, what ? the 7th time y’all have accused me of this ? the 3rd in the past month?” she tweeted.
“[And] yet not one OD from all the ‘drugs’ y’all accuse me of doing or any hospitalizations… 7… but who’s counting right…”
“Like.. no please.. give it up.. there are so many more interesting things to write about.
“And actions speak louder than words. So if my actions prove your words wrong, why keep trying to pull this s–t? it’s a lil pathetic. I’ll pray for y’all. SMOKE SOME WEED AND MELLOW OUT.”
Paris went on to address the photos that appeared to show her in the midst of a heated altercation with her boyfriend:
“Me and my bf re-enacted ‘The Californians’ from SNL while we were in NOLA purely for the entertainment of our friends, and paps happened to be taking pictures of it all and…. y’all it looks like a full on break-up scene in a sad drama movie omg,” she tweeted.
As for the pot-smoking video, Paris maintains that her use of substances is entirely under control:
“F——kkkk youuuuuuuuu you lying pieces of s——ttttttttttttt,” Paris tweeted in response to tabloid coverage of the clip.
“I smoke weed on my story ONE time and all of a sudden I’m a junkie meth alcoholic party raver that’s also secretly married and pregnant and may or may not have a penis. I have a job. And dogs. And a bedtime. Go f–k yourself.”
Paris’ lengthy tirade continued, as she addressed the rumors that she’s in the midst of a psychotic break:
“There’s no meltdown, no ‘losing [my] s–t,’ or being demanding of anyone,” she wrote.
“I said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m the happiest and healthiest I’ve been in a long time.”
We wish Paris all the best — but we also wish she would demonstrate a bit more respect for the seriousness of the allegations against her father.
