On October 11, it was announced via “Outlander” official Twitter account that Maria Doyle Kennedy and Ed Speleers were tapped to join the cast of the series for the upcoming season.

The character that Kennedy will play is Jocasta, a strong-willed character who is the youngest sister of Ellen MacKenzie, as well as Jamie’s aunt. She moves to the American colonies, where she will meet Jamie and Claire in season 4, with her first husband after the Jacobite revolt. Meanwhile, Speleers will portray Stephen Bonnet, an Irish pirate and smuggler who will cause several troubles to our protagonists once they arrive in the American. He will also be involved in Roger (Richard Rankin) and Brianna (Sophie Skeleton)’s lives.

The season 4 of the series will be based on “Drums of Autumn”, the fourth book in Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series. The story follows how Jamie () and Claire () face their new life in the American colonies. Production on the new season started on October 10 in Scotland.

Kennedy is an Irish actress who is known for her role as Siobhan Sadler on “”, Peggy Nothingham in “” and Penny in “”. Meanwhile, Speleers’ other credits include his role as Jimmy Kent on “”, Edward Seymour on “” and James Harcourt in “”.

Season 3 of “Outlander” is currently airing Sunday nights at 8 P.M. ET/PT on Starz. On October 22, the network will air a marathon of the first five episodes before airing the latest episode. The sixth episode will feature the long-awaited reunion between Jamie and Claire after being separated by time for 20 years.
