“I play a very different character from any I have ever played,” the actress said in a statement.
Law & Order: SVU is adding a very familiar face to the mix for season 19.
Brooke Shields has been tapped for a major recurring role on the long-running NBC drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Details on her character are being kept under wraps other than the tease that her role will shake up Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) world.
“I play a very different character from any I have ever played,” Shields said in a statement. “I’m excited to stir the SVU pot a bit.”
Shields is the second new addition to the Universal TV drama. Philip Winchester will join the SVU cast full-time midseason, reprising his Chicago Justice role of lawyer Peter Stone.
Behind the scenes, Michael S. Chernuchin has come onboard as showrunner for season 19 after serving in the same capacity on Dick Wolf’s short-lived Chicago Justice spinoff.
Over its storied run, SVU has become known for landing high-profile guest stars like the late Robin Williams, Sharon Stone, Alec Baldwin, Whoopi Goldberg and Carol Burnett, among many others.
For Shields, the role brings her back to NBC where she starred in the workplace comedy Suddenly Susan and more recently the drama Lipstick Jungle. Her other TV roles include The Middle, Army Wives, That ’70s Show and Nip/Tuck. Her film credits include Endless Love and The Blue Lagoon, and she will next be seen in the indie film Daisy Winters. She is repped by UTA.
Law & Order: SVU returns Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
