She told the publication: ‘My family were not helpful in that they were incredibly fat-phobic.

‘Jutting hip bones were seen as a sign of peak brilliance both at home and at school. It didn’t matter that I did well academically or was a good swimmer.

‘All I thought was important about me was that my jeans hung off my hip bones.’

‘I think about how it heals and repairs itself, takes me from point A to B, and allows me to do my job, have sex, and just live my life. It’s a finely tuned engine that deserves to be respected, and I’m so grateful for it now

‘Stop shaming people about their body, stop shaming people about their age, stop shaming people about their symmetry. Just let a b***h live.’

Jameela has been happily dating musician and producer James Blake.
